As many of us throughout Tampa Bay reckon with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, residents in southwest Florida are still in dire rescue and recovery mode. Remarkable Florida towns like Naples, Sanibel, Fort Myers and Port Charlotte are still very much a war zone. It’s imperative that the Tampa Bay area pitch in—they’d do the same for us. It could have been us.
Here are eight ways to provide disaster relief for our neighbors down the coast.
Florida Disaster Fund
The most seamless opportunity to lend aid immediately. You can even text DISASTER to 20222 to make a donation straight from your phone.
Airlink
Airlink provides critical aid to communities in crisis by providing airlift and logistical solutions to nonprofit partners. They’re currently sending air response teams to the Florida Gulf Coast as search and rescue continues.
Core
Core puts a focus on serving the most devastated communities in crisis situations. To state the obvious, there’s a lot of those right now.
The Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation
The Lightning Foundation and Vinik Family Foundation announced today they’re throwing $1 million each toward relief efforts. As they continue to form key partnerships and identify opportunities to support, you can further assist proceeds by donating directly to the fund.
World Central Kitchen
Chef Jose Andres’s WCK team is famous for providing hot and cold home-cooked meals for those in recovery and relief. They’re currently aiming to cook up more than 25,000 meals per day as needed.
CARE
The Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere is currently distributing emergency cash to those with urgent needs.
Farm Share
Farm Share is Florida’s homegrown food bank, founded for and by Floridians, whose No. 1 priority at the moment is helping those in need along the coast.
