The Identity Tampa Bay recommends three things to do this weekend:
WMNF Presents: The Harlem Gospel Travelers with Ari Chi
Friday 8 p.m. | Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa
The Harlem Gospel Travelers are the trio of the moment, with their debut album He’s On Time charting on Billboard and garnering the fandom of one Sir Elton John.
They’ll bring modernized takes on the iconic gospel sound of the 50s and 60s to the locally historic and always beloved Skipper’s Smokehouse Friday night. A show that will also see one of The Identity’s longtime favorites perform as the opening act: Tampa Bay native Ari Chi.
Our rec: Check out the fast-rising act while the tickets are still $20, next time around it might cost ya.
Sant’ Yago Knight Parade
Saturday 7 p.m. | 7th Avenue, Ybor City
All Gasparilla’d out?
We didn’t think so.
The Knight Parade is sending its classic characters, illuminated floats, marching bands and special guests down Seventh Avenue Saturday in what should be another fun night in Ybor City. The parade is a celebration of Tampa’s long Latin heritage and civic pride. If you want to know how to have a good time in this town, take it from the people who have been here the longest.
Sunshine City Smokeout
Saturday 12 – 9 p.m. | The St. Pete Pier, St. Pete
In a battle royale of the century, a bevy of pulled pork, ribs, sausages and mouthwatering sauces are about to duke it out in Spa Beach Park this weekend. All to the soundtrack of a little classic southern rock.
One-day tickets are just $10-in-advance to grub your way around the festival and vote for the best delicious meats along Tampa Bay’s brightest coast.
