The Identity Tampa Bay recommends three things to do this weekend:
Pete Alonso’s Battle for the Bay
Saturday 3 – 6 p.m. | Plant High School, South Tampa
Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby King returns home for a dinger fest of his own this weekend.
Mets star Pete Alonso is hitting his old digs at Plant High School to showcase Tampa’s exciting youth baseball and softball players. The inaugural event, created by Pete and his wife Haley, will have food trucks, games, beautiful weather, and a home run derby for ball players ages 12 to 16. Afterward, Pete and friends will partake in their own home run exhibition for fans.
General admission tickets are just $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12-and-under, with all proceeds going toward the Alonso Foundation supporting youth, veterans and animals in need.
Sunroom Sessions
Saturday 5 – 9 p.m. | Nana’s Restaurant & Juice Bar, Ybor City
Noted soul singer Sundé is bringing “Sunroom Sessions” to the backyard at Nana’s this Saturday, where a lineup of some of Tampa’s best musicians will go down alongside a vegan soul food market.
This week’s hang includes local supergroup Rejuvenation, stripped down sets from Tampa’s “tightest women songwriters in town,” live paintings, and improv jams from local MCs and soloists. And of course, Nana’s dynamite vegan eats keeping things moving. Donations start at $20 for South Ybor’s latest and greatest block party.
Black Heritage Music Fest
Saturday & Sunday | Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Downtown Tampa
The Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival is growing each and every year, with a sharp aim to promote diversity and cultural sensitivity, as well as increase our community’s awareness of local African and African-American history.
Nathan Mitchell, DJ Grandmaster Dee and ‘90s R&B legends Dru Hill come together to headline this year’s music fest at Curtis Hixon. The entire lineup is stacked with musical talent, but in the off-chance you’re still trying to put a finger on Dru Hill, the former chart-topping group is helmed by the star-studded, thong-enthusiast elephant in the room, Sisqó.
Tickets start at just $20 for single-day admission. Be sure to stay tuned for more top-tier events going down throughout the course of Black Heritage Fest.
