“The coldest beer this side of heaven.”
It’s written on the menu, it’s printed on the t-shirts.
And inside the storied Anna Maria Island tap house, it’s validated in the frostiest $1 mug of Budweiser you’ll ever put to your lips.
Duffy’s Tavern has been serving up cold beer and knockout burgers on the island since 1958. Not much has changed since; the menu is timeless, the bar is cash-only and it’s all run by longtime owner Pat “Miss Duffy” Guyer’s five daughters.
At any other restaurant, we might lead you toward the menu’s dark horse. Save yourself the indecision and get a damn cheeseburger—Duffy’s was voted one of the top-ten “hamburger heavens” in the country by USA Today. It is simplicity cooked to perfection on a warm bun. (Though we wouldn’t consider it novice to, say, parcel a grilled cheese or chili dog as a side accompaniment.)
Back to the beer, where the secret lies in the frozen mugs. They’re 10 ounces, which means by the time you get to the bottom of what would be a normally lukewarm pour, Duffy’s draft remains ice cold.
Have a glass. Have a burger. Buy a shirt.
And then get back to the beach.
