The art of the hangover cure is a personal, sacred craft perfected over time.
It can be a true “to each their own.”
But if there is one foundation supporting all of the eggs and bacon and grease and Bloody Mary, it’s that the meal requires the power to make all of last night’s mistakes feel suddenly and vastly inconsequential. A supernatural concoction to settle the stomach, ease the mind and say, hey pal, everything is going to be OK.
These are our favorite of such meals throughout Tampa Bay. From Korean-fried remedies to traditional breakfast sandwiches, here are eight elite hangover orders for the taking.
We recommend bringing a friend. (It helps.)
The Spot: Wild Child | St. Pete
The Order: Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, Bloody Mary
The karaage fried chicken and spice of the vegetable-garnished Bloody Mary make for a splendid collaboration of crunch, grease, nourishment, and tension-release.
The Spot: West Tampa Sandwich Shop | West Tampa
The Order: Egg Sandwich with Chorizo and Swiss Cheese, Gatorade, Double Espresso
Any meat pairs well with WTSS’s undefeated breakfast sandwich, we opt for the chorizo for a head-clearing kick. Follow with electrolytes and Cuban coffee. A true Tampa classic.
The Spot: Datz | South Tampa, St. Pete
The Order: Eggs Barbacoa, Bloody Mary
No one has ever said no to runny eggs over barbacoa and a garnish-loaded Bloody. (Don’t fact check us on that.)
The Spot: Social Roost | Downtown St. Pete
The Order: Eggs Benny, Cavicchioli Prosecco
One of St. Pete’s best new restaurants serving up a dynamite brunch menu. Really can’t go wrong here, but the classic Eggs Benny never fails.
The Spot: La Segunda | Ybor City, St. Pete
The Order: Avocado Sandwich, Café Con Leche
Vegetarian-friendly. But we’ll turn our head the other way if you’d like to add bacon.
The Spot: Santoro’s Pizza | Tampa
The Order: Breakfast Pizza, Peroni
Did you know Santoro’s has breakfast pizza? We didn’t until recently. And it is glorious.
The Spot: Cru Cellars | Palma Ceia, Westshore Marina
The Order: Shrimp with Garlic Cream, Bloody Mary
Not the first thing you think of when you think hangover cure. But Cru’s shrimp dishes are somehow fresher than fresh, paired with one of the best Bloodies in the bay area.
The Spot: Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café | Seminole Heights
The Order: Kiss My Grits, Havana Morning
Top-of-the-line shrimp and grits at a longtime brunch nirvana in Seminole Heights. Where you can also treat your split nerve endings to a delicious and inventive morning coffee cocktail.
