The Identity Tampa Bay recommends three things to do this weekend:
2022 U.S. Gymnastics Championships
Thursday – Saturday | Amalie Arena, Tampa
If you want to get to the Olympics, you have to go through here.
Get a sneak peak at the potential stars of the 2024 Summer Games this weekend as both junior and senior-level gymnasts square off at Amalie Arena. General and VIP ticket packages are still up for grabs. And a “FlipZone” fan festival is also available in Thunder Alley each day, featuring fan games, activations, autographs and meet & greets.
Jack Johnson with Ziggy Marley
Friday 7:30 p.m. | MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre, Tampa
Did you know Jack Johnson wrote “Better Together” about him and Ziggy Marley?
We didn’t either! And that’s because, sadly and stupidly, we just made it up. But that doesn’t mean the duo is remotely worth passing on come Friday.
Johnson’s widely heralded band puts on a fun show night in and night out, and is famous for catering to its fanbase. Kind of comes with the territory of being the nicest rock star on the planet. Tack on the eldest son of Bob Marley as the opener and you’re in for a legendary start to the weekend.
Cry Baby at Shuffle
Saturday 8 p.m. | Shuffle, Seminole Heights
Bust out the disks and cue-sticks because, folks, we’re heading to Shuffle.
North Carolina indie-pop band Cry Baby is supplying the terrifically dance-able soundtrack for the night. So while you’re not dominating the boards, you can boogie down to similar sounds that made 90s boy bands such sensations years ago. Shane T and Airport will also be there, with tickets sitting at a $10 bargain.
